How to Use Support Ticket Cost Calculator — Audit Customer Support Unit Economics
How to Use the Support Cost Per Ticket Calculator
Step 1: Enter Your Support Team Details
Enter your support Headcount and Average Annual Salary per agent. Add an Overhead percentage to account for benefits, payroll tax, management, and facilities on top of base salary.
Step 2: Enter Tooling and Ticket Volume
Add your monthly Tools Cost (help desk / ticketing software licenses) and your monthly Ticket Volume (total tickets handled across the team).
Step 3: Read Your Cost Per Ticket
The calculator computes your fully-loaded monthly support cost and divides it by ticket volume to get a Cost Per Ticket, along with tickets handled per agent per month.
Step 4: Check the Benchmark Rating
- Excellent (< $10) — highly efficient support operation
- Good ($10 – $18) — solid, competitive cost structure
- Average ($18 – $28) — typical for many SaaS support teams
- High ($28 – $40) — investigate staffing or process inefficiencies
- Very High (> $40) — support cost is a significant efficiency risk
Step 5: Review the Volume Scaling Table
With team cost held fixed, the table shows how cost per ticket changes as ticket volume scales from 50% to 150% of your current volume — useful for understanding how much headroom you have before needing to add headcount.
