How to Use the Revenue Per Employee Calculator
Step 1: Enter Your ARR
Enter your company's Annual Recurring Revenue (ARR).
Step 2: Enter Headcount by Department
Enter headcount for Engineering, Sales, Marketing, Customer Success, and Other (G&A, product, design, etc.).
Step 3: Read Your Efficiency Metrics
The calculator computes Revenue Per Employee (ARR ÷ total headcount) and Revenue Per Engineer (ARR ÷ engineering headcount), both common capital-efficiency benchmarks used by SaaS operators and investors.
Step 4: Check the Benchmark Rating
- Elite (≥ $300k per employee) — top-quartile capital efficiency
- Excellent ($200k – $300k) — strong, well above median
- Good ($150k – $200k) — solid, near industry median
- Average ($100k – $150k) — typical for growth-stage SaaS
- Below Benchmark (< $100k) — org may be overstaffed relative to revenue, or still ramping
