API Cost Estimator — Forecast Monthly Usage & Tiers
Estimate monthly API costs from request volume and per-request or per-token pricing tiers. Enter your monthly request volume, configure up to 3 pricing tiers, and see total cost, cost per 1K requests, cost per user, and the number of users needed to break even.
How to Use API Cost Estimator — Forecast Monthly Usage & Tiers
How to Use the API Usage Cost Estimator
Step 1: Select Your Pricing Model
Choose between two modes:
- Per Request — you pay a fixed price for each API call (common for REST APIs and webhooks)
- Per 1K Tokens — you pay per 1,000 tokens consumed (common for LLM APIs like OpenAI and Anthropic)
Step 2: Enter Your Monthly Request Volume
Input the total number of API calls you make per month. For per-token pricing, also enter the average number of tokens per request (input plus output tokens combined).
Step 3: Configure Pricing Tiers
Enter up to 3 pricing tiers to match your provider pricing:
- Tier 1 — the first N requests or 1K tokens at price X
- Tier 2 — the next N requests or 1K tokens at price Y (optional)
- Tier 3 — all requests above the tier 2 cap at price Z (always unlimited)
Leave the Volume Cap blank to make a tier catch-all. For flat-rate pricing with no tiers, just fill in Tier 1 with no volume cap.
Step 4: Add Optional User Metrics
Enter your monthly active user count and average revenue per user to unlock two additional metrics:
- API Cost per User — how much you spend on API calls per paying customer
- Breakeven Users — the minimum number of users needed for revenue to cover API costs
Step 5: Use Presets
Load the AI API, Flat Rate API, or Tiered Volume API preset to quickly explore different pricing structures.
