How to Use CSV Data Cleaner — Trim & Dedupe Tool

How to Use the CSV Data Cleaner

Step 1: Load Your CSV

Paste CSV text directly into the input field, or click Upload File to load a .csv or .txt file from your device. Click Load CSV to parse and preview the data.

Step 2: Review Issues

The tool automatically detects and reports:

  • Errors — rows with inconsistent column counts, empty column headers
  • Warnings — empty rows, duplicate rows, null/NA values

A table preview shows the first 50 rows with problematic rows highlighted in colour.

Step 3: Select Cleaning Options

Choose which operations to apply:

  • Trim whitespace — removes leading/trailing spaces from all cells (on by default)
  • Normalize line endings — standardises \r\n and \r to \n (on by default)
  • Remove empty rows — deletes rows where all cells are blank (on by default)
  • Remove duplicate rows — removes exact duplicate rows, keeping the first occurrence
  • Replace null/NA values — replaces NULL, N/A, #N/A, none, na with empty string

Step 4: Clean and Download

Click Clean CSV to apply the selected operations. A cleaned preview shows the result with a row count comparison. Click Download to save cleaned.csv or Copy CSV to copy to clipboard.

Tips

  • Load the example data (Sample data with issues) to see all features in action
  • The row count shows how many rows were removed during cleaning
  • Empty rows are highlighted in red in the preview; inconsistent-length rows in amber
  • All processing is browser-only — safe for confidential or production data
