How to Use Rust Formatter
How to Use the Rust Formatter
Step 1: Paste Your Rust Code
Paste or type your Rust code into the input field on the left.
Step 2: Choose Your Options
Indent Size — Select how many spaces to use per indentation level:
- 4 spaces — The
rustfmtdefault and Rust community standard - 2 spaces — Compact style preferred in some codebases
Max Line Length — Set the line length threshold for the warning badge:
- 80 — Classic terminal width (rustfmt default)
- 100 — Common in modern projects
- 120 — Wide monitor preference
Lines exceeding the selected limit are counted and shown as a badge on the output panel. No lines are automatically wrapped.
Step 3: Copy the Result
The formatted output appears instantly on the right. Click Copy Formatted to copy it to your clipboard.
What Gets Formatted
- Space indentation — All indentation is replaced with spaces at the selected size, with level tracked by
{and}braces - Brace on same line — A standalone
{on its own line is merged onto the end of the preceding line (rustfmt style) - Trailing commas — The last field in a struct, last variant in an enum, and last arm in a match expression automatically receive a trailing comma if missing
Tips
- Use the example buttons to test with real Rust snippets
- The formatter handles common patterns; for production code use
rustfmtdirectly - The long-line badge is informational only — no lines are wrapped
