How to Use the CSS Media Query Generator
Step 1: Choose a Breakpoint Preset
Select a preset that matches your CSS framework:
- Tailwind CSS — sm (640px), md (768px), lg (1024px), xl (1280px), 2xl (1536px)
- Bootstrap 5 — sm (576px), md (768px), lg (992px), xl (1200px), xxl (1400px)
- Material UI — xs (0px), sm (600px), md (900px), lg (1200px), xl (1536px)
- Custom — start with an empty list and add your own breakpoints
Step 2: Select Mobile-first or Desktop-first
Mobile-first (min-width): Styles outside any media query apply to the smallest screens. Each breakpoint adds styles for that width and above. This is the recommended approach for modern responsive design and matches how Tailwind, Bootstrap, and Material UI work.
Desktop-first (max-width): Start with desktop styles and override for smaller screens. Each block applies below the listed width. The generator subtracts 0.02px from max-width values to prevent overlap with adjacent min-width queries.
Step 3: Customize Breakpoints
Toggle individual breakpoints on or off by clicking them. Remove any breakpoint with the × button. Add a custom breakpoint by entering a name and a pixel width, then clicking Add.
Step 4: Copy the Output
Click Copy to copy all generated media query blocks to your clipboard. Paste them into your CSS file and add your styles inside each block.
