How to Use the dotenv File Parser
Step 1: Paste Your .env File
Copy the contents of your .env file and paste them into the input area. The tool accepts:

# any comment - Blank lines (preserved as spacing)
Step 2: Review the Line-by-Line Analysis
Every line is classified as:
- Valid — correctly formatted KEY=VALUE entry
- Duplicate — a key that already appeared earlier in the file (first occurrence wins)
- Invalid — malformed entry (missing =, key starts with a digit, spaces in the key name, etc.)
- Comment — lines starting with #, preserved as-is
Step 3: Copy the Clean Output
Switch to the Clean Output tab to see a deduplicated, validated version with all invalid lines and duplicate entries removed. Click "Copy" to copy it to your clipboard.
Key Validation Rules
- Must start with a letter or underscore (
A-Z,a-z,_) - Followed by letters, digits, or underscores only
- No spaces, hyphens, or special characters in key names
Tips
- Duplicate keys: the first occurrence is kept, all later ones are removed
- Your file contents never leave your browser — safe for files containing real API keys and passwords
