How to Use the CSS Flexbox Generator
Step 1: Choose a Preset or Configure Manually
Load a preset to start with a common layout pattern:
- Row (Default) — standard horizontal flex row
- Centered Stack — vertically and horizontally centered column
- Space Between — items spread evenly across the row
- Wrapping Cards — items wrap onto new rows with a fixed basis
- Equal Grow — all items grow to fill available width equally
Step 2: Set Container Properties
Use the segmented buttons to toggle each flex container property:
- flex-direction — controls the main axis: row, row-reverse, column, column-reverse
- flex-wrap — controls whether items wrap onto new lines
- justify-content — aligns items along the main axis
- align-items — aligns items along the cross axis within each line
- align-content — only appears when flex-wrap is enabled; controls multi-line alignment
Step 3: Set Gaps
Enter column-gap and row-gap values in pixels. Equal values produce a shorthand gap property in the output.
Step 4: Set Item Properties
Configure flex properties applied to all items:
- flex-grow — how much extra space an item takes (0 = does not grow)
- flex-shrink — how much an item shrinks when space is tight (1 = shrinks normally)
- flex-basis — initial size before grow/shrink is applied (auto, 100px, 50%)
- align-self — override the container align-items for individual items
Step 5: Adjust Preview and Copy
Use the item count stepper (2–6) to change the number of preview boxes. Click Copy CSS to copy the complete container and item CSS.
